You make the difference.

Children are our greatest resource. To become brilliant, well adjusted and successful adults they need support. You can be part of that guiding light. Learn how.

Become a virtual volunteer or learn to support online learning as a parent.

Volunteering for a few hours each week is an amazing act of grace and service. It helps students, families, and the larger community grow and thrive. Whether you are a volunteer, launching into the online setting or a parent looking for ways to support your children, our Liaison and Tutoring training will help to give you the skills needed to share your knowledge and your passion.

Each pathway has a different focus designed to support you as you navigate the online educational environment. The 12 units of instruction introduce you to different online platforms, Google Classroom or Seesaw, and help you to explore essential skills such as self-awareness, self-direction, perseverance, adaptability, and personal responsibility.

The learning modules are run in a six week course. They are asynchronous so you can do the work when you have time, however, there is a live session each week to help with any questions you may have. Discussions with other class members help to open up different lenses through which to view the content. Content is presented in a variety of different learning modalities; visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

Courses are run in a Google Classroom and all participants will need a gmail account to participate. There is no grading, only feedback from the instructor to help you explore different angles of the topic. The course instructor is never more than an email or Google Chat away and you are encouraged to reach out as often as you need for additional support.

What is a liaison volunteer?

Liaison Volunteers  are parents, grandparents or community members interested in building relationships with students and supporting them on a weekly basis. These volunteers would be equated with a traditional “Homeroom Mom” or “Dad”. They must commit to a minimum of 2-3 hours, two times weekly. The times must be consistent in order to bring stability to the students they are working with. The number of students that are assigned to a Liaison will be based off of the number of hours they can commit to. It is suggested that each student receive 1 hour of support weekly.

What is a tutoring volunteer?

Tutoring Volunteers are parents, grandparents or community members with areas of interest or expertise in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies or Foreign Languages (Spanish, German, French, Japanese). These volunteers would be asked to commit to a minimum of 2-3 hours, one time per week. They would sign up for a 2-3 hour block of time during a week, when they would be available for online tutoring. It is suggested that students be grouped into grade level content pods during which the volunteer could support between 3-5 students at a time.
