Jay Zarr
How do you explain the excitement that one receives upon sensing the shifting of an individual or organization's paradigm? I have been honored to see the enlightenment that comes from someone on their first outdoor adventure or creating their first successful program at work. And I have witnessed the spark of leadership development grow into a flame for an empowered individual. When these things happen, I feel like I am making a positive difference globally, creating my life sparks.
Jay offers a unique perspective from his 40+ years in the field about the value of self-knowledge, the collaborative nature of Leadership, and a leader's role as a servant. Be prepared to move, think and feel - three crucial "tools" for aspiring, budding, or established leaders.
His experiences range from working in Higher Education, United States Forest Service, At-risk (At Promise) youth, Wilderness Education Association, Aging to Saging Certify Instructor to serving as the Board President of the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo to being a naturalist on the Pacific Catalyst. Other involvement has been creating programs at CSU-Pueblo, Western State University, Colorado Mountain College, and help design the 10th Mountain Hut System in Colorado. Currently, along with his wife, Cleo is the CO-Owner of Story Tellers Travels and Imagine Iif a Body, Mind, and Spirit Connections Company – Turning the ordinary into extraordinary.
Jay received his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Biology from Colorado State University in Pueblo and His Master of Science Degree in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University – Mankato with additional leadership and innovation training from the University of Colorado – Denver.
He is an active member of the International Association for Experiential Education, serving in many Leadership roles. He has been listed three times with the Who's Who in American Educators – an honor that only 5% percent of American educators have achieved. In Jay's mind, his highest honors have been when 3 of his former students have asked him to officiate their wedding ceremonies. He advises his participants to Be prepared to move, be ready to think and be willing to feel – Be Here Now.
“One’s mind, stretched by a new idea, never regains it’s original dimensions.”
— Oliver Wendell Homes, American Physician, Poet and Polymath
